https://ca.news.yahoo.com/hackers-target-fridges-french-supermarkets-144009688.html

A major cyberattack targeting commercial refrigeration systems across France has left more than 150 supermarkets facing millions of euros in damages after hackers remotely altered fridge temperatures overnight.

The attack compromised cold-chain control software across nationwide locations of Intermarché, E.Leclerc, and Coopérative U (Super U).

Rather than shutting systems off, the attackers remotely reprogrammed cooling regulators to force a continuous defrost cycle, driving internal temperatures up to 50ºC.

Store workers arriving on Monday morning discovered compromised units left vast quantities of fresh produce, meat, dairy, and frozen goods completely spoiled.

Trump declares anyone who uses the term Artificial Intelligence to be "The Enemy" (independent.co.uk)

submitted by SL u/GBeSr2RJe6c3 to s/news-posting.bso

Writing on Truth Social, President Donald Trump declared that the White House "considers anyone that uses the term, 'Artificial Intelligence', as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, 'Super Intelligence', THE ENEMY!"

The president’s outburst-cum-veiled threat landed just over a week after he signed an executive order directing executive branch agencies to begin referring to artificial intelligence, which is now embedded across the federal government, as "super intelligence" following a lunch with leaders in the AI industry, including Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, Dario Amodei and others.

Golden naked Trump statue installed at European Parliament (media.cnn.com)

submitted by zzz u/ApnFNtg9hbfd to s/news-posting.bso

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/10/07/style/golden-naked-trump-statue-european-parliament

Titled “The Orange Plague,” the artwork has been installed in Strasbourg, France, the official seat of the European Parliament. The copper sculpture, also dubbed the “King of Injustice,” imagines the US president on the shoulders of a frail smaller figure. His thighs and sagging belly wrap tightly around the man’s head; his hands clutch at a long golf club and the scales of justice.

This is not necessarily a rebuke from the European Union, but rather from Danish politician Per Clausen, who sponsored the exhibit. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are entitled to host displays on parliament grounds, though all exhibitions must be approved by officials. Parliamentary rules prohibit events or exhibitions deemed “offensive or of an inflammatory nature or contradictory to the values on which the Union is founded,” or those that “undermine the dignity of Parliament.”

A spokesperson for the European Parliament’s press service said via email that the exhibit was approved by the parliament’s quaestors, a cross-party group of MEP’s responsible for administrative matters. “Each MEP is entitled to sponsor two cultural events or exhibitions per parliamentary term in dedicated areas,” the statement added, adding that quaestors “assess the compliance with the rules in place.”

https://www.cornellsun.com/article/2026/10/cornell-to-become-first-ivy-league-university-to-offer-degrees-in-prison

Cornell will become the first Ivy League university to offer a degree to incarcerated students when the Cornell Prison Education Program launches its Bachelor of Professional Studies program at Cayuga Correctional Facility in Fall 2027.

The program, offered through a partnership with Cornell’s School of Continuing Education, features organizations, markets, and society as the first approved major.

Its first cohort is expected to enroll 12 to 18 students, Jenna LaPietra, CPEP's director of strategic initiatives, wrote in a statement to The Sun. The program is expected to take approximately three years to complete.

Applicants must have an associate’s degree or at least 60 college credits and either reside at Cayuga Correctional Facility or qualify to transfer there. The School of Continuing Education will oversee admissions and is developing an application process adapted to the prison’s paper-based environment.

The new degree expands CPEP, which was founded in 2001 by Prof. Emeritus Pete Wetherbee, literatures in English. Through its partnership with SUNY Cayuga Community College, CPEP students have earned credits toward associate’s degrees, with advanced students being able to earn Cornell’s certificate in liberal arts.

Archaeologists find huge Viking textile production site in Denmark (mapi.associatedpress.com)

Archaeologists have discovered a huge Viking Age textile production site in Denmark that dates back more than 1,000 years and underlines the sophistication of Viking society.

Experts from the Moesgaard Museum said this week that the sprawling 100,000-square-meter site features an area for processing flax as well as more than 80 pit houses —semi-buried huts that were used as workshops and dwellings in Viking times.

It’s located in Søften, 10 kilometers north of Denmark’s second-largest city, Aarhus, on the Jutland peninsula. The site dates back to the late Iron Age and early Viking Age, sometime between A.D. 600 and 950.

Trump and US tech giants sign pact to stop AI from going rogue (mf.b37mrtl.ru)

submitted by u/SHm2JhCJpwvi to s/news-posting.bso

The document, titled the White House Accord on Super Intelligence – Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities, was signed by US President Donald Trump, as well as Google’s Sundar Pichai, Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI’s Greg Brockman, xAI’s Elon Musk and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang.

The signatories agreed that every company developing advanced artificial intelligence models should have "robust internal processes and controls to ensure that their technology behaves as intended and that any issues are promptly identified and resolved".

The companies pledged to ensure that their models "do not hack or access technical systems in unintended ways" and said they would "empower an internal team to ensure all of the controls, monitoring, and detection are operating as intended, and that any issues are remediated".

They also pledged to allow independent external audits of their safeguards and designate "an independent committee of the board of directors" to evaluate compliance.
